Greetings from Ploughshares Nursery,
Yikes!!! All of this talk about drought is scary stuff. After all, where
will we be without our most precious resource? But all is not doom and
gloom; perhaps there is a silver lining. We have all become more aware
of our water usage. Even the most devout environmentalists are being forced
to reconsider some of their habits. Our manager, Michael, has not only
vowed to turn the water off while he is shaving but has given up shaving
all together. O.K., maybe that’s not that big of a change but some people
who have been coming by the nursery have been telling us about some big
plans for their lawns; as in adios, sayonara, joi gin, see you later.
Like the finest moments of Beethoven’s late string quartets the poetic
words “I’m tearing out my lawn” brings a little moment of ecstasy to our
drought-fearing souls. Like a drug we are totally hooked on these words
and want, no need, to hear them again and again. That is why we are proud
to announce the “PLOUGHSHARES TEAR OUR YOUR LAWN CHALLENGE”. If you bring
us before and after pictures of the removal of at least forty percent
of your lawn we will be thrilled to give you a one time twenty percent
off coupon to fill the space. Not only will you be given the coupon but
you will also have the opportunity to have a half hour, no interruptions,
consultation with the Ploughshares Nursery senior staff member of your
choice. The offer is good until the end of the year.
Speaking of senior staff members and doom and gloom with a silver lining,
Andrea, our incredibly talented propagation specialist, is leaving us
to attend grad school. We can not say enough about how much Andrea has
meant to the nursery and we wish her all good things. Filling Andrea’s
very large shoes is Sia Duhamel. Sia comes to us from the UC Botanical
gardens and is already adding his touch to the nursery. Be on the look
out for all sorts of new and wonderful edible plants that you never new
existed.
Finally we would like to thank everyone who attended one of our workshops
this spring. The larger than expected crowds have given us all the encouragement
we needed to continue having them. Be on the lookout for a new round of
exciting speakers this fall.
Thanks for all of your support,
Linda, Michael, Andrea, and Sia the new guy
