September 2010
Ploughshares has officially started a green
building project!
We've invited a small group of talented Bay Area architecture firms to
design a new retail and office building for us. Design proposals are
due in October and we hope to start construction by the beginning of
2011. Our goal is to create a "net zero" facility that demonstrates the
use of sustainable materials and offsets any conventional energy use
with clean energy.
A volunteer recently finishing building a farm stand for Ploughshares that we
hope to launch soon to sell tomatoes and other produce harvested from
our demonstration gardens. In the mean time, fresh farm produce is
available at the Growing Youth farm
stand at Ploughshares on Fridays 3:30pm-6:30pm.
Some other upcoming highlights:
We'll be hosting a booth at the Webster Street Jam on September 11
and 12.
Jocelyn plans to
attend the Bay-Friendly Landscape
Conference in San Francisco on September 17, which will feature
presentations, case studies, and interactive sessions on sustainable
solutions for landscaping.
We're doing a Container
Gardening workshop on September 18 and a Native and Drought Tolerant Garden Design
workshop on September 25.
Bay-Friendly is hosting a "Rethinking
Your Lawn" workshop at Ploughshares on October 2.
All of us look forward to your next visit!
Warmly,
Your Friends at Ploughshares
